I DON’T WONT TO LEARN HOW TO BE COOL

MY FAMILY INSISTED I TAKE THIS – I AM SUPPOSEDLY THE ARTY ONE….

HOW CAN TIME BE TICKING AWAY FRAMED SO AWFULLY?

THIS COMPLICATION FOR HOLDING TIME IN PLACE, IT WEIGHS ME DOWN

A WORLD THAT CONTAINS ALL MY FAMILIES MISTAKES?

IT WAS JUST A FLING, IT NEVER REALLY BELONGED WITH ME

A LANDSCAPE IN AMATEUR

THIS FURLOOM IS A THING FROM A DIFFERENT TIME AND PLACE, NEEDING QUITE SOME MAINTENANCE!

A GENEROUS GIFT THAT CONSTANTLY GETS IN THE WAY

Bestowed

I am very pleased to present to you my socially engaged art project Bestowed – a poetic art service of listening and recycling.

Bestowed asks people to engage in conversation about objects they have been given that they also no longer want to keep. It aims to unravel the complexities and expectations of gifts that they may want to get rid of but have not felt comfortable to do so or found the right way to part with it. Till now!

Bestowed seeks to explore the social and practical complexities involved in the burden of an unwanted gift whilst experimenting with rituals of disposal as a public service.

This project is being created in partnership with the arts organisation OSCA – Open Space Contemporary Arts as part of their Projects of the Everyday SA artists commissioning initiative.

I engage you in a conversation about what has been bestowed to you, that no longer fits in your life. Throughout this meeting, we will talk about this thing, the expectations and also uncover the stories between the rituals of giving and those of receiving. Whilst unpacking the conundrum of the many things that surround us and how these things shape our lives and the environment. We will end our time together with the aim to clear this object out of your hands and give it a new life as part of an evolving art project. This will take the form of a farewell ritual that responds directly to your story.

Bestowed is part of Projects of the Everyday, commissioned by OSCA
